Electric Vehicle

The history of electric vehicles started in Nepal with the establishment of trolly bus services. Ever since then, the use of electric vehicles should have been increased, but it didn't. Earlier policies and budgets attempted to encourage the use of EVs through tax breaks, despite the fact that a lack of charging stations remained a major concern. Reduced purchase and operating costs and charging duration could have resulted in a significant increase in the acceptability of electric vehicles in Kathmandu Valley. The use of EVs was increasing in recent years but the major increase in tax rates in the budget of 2077/2078 highly affected the sales of EVs. But it is expected that with the major decrease of taxes in 2078/79, sales of EV in Nepal may increase. Now the price of an electric vehicle can be one-third of the price of a petrol/diesel car having similar features and specifications. The selection of a contractor to install 50 electric vehicle charging stations across Nepal by the Nepal Electricity Authority, assures that charging problems for the long drive will be solved. It also helps to increase the sales and use of EVs in Nepal. It is estimated that the 1000 MW electricity will be added to the national grid at the end of the fiscal year 2078/79 from the different hydro powers that are under construction. So the availability of electricity will be 24/7. So, the Future of electric vehicles is bright in Nepal due to the present tax system and availability of electricity. And the time has come for Nepal to lay the groundwork for what is certain to be the next great transportation transition. But for this Nepal have to build the robust infrastructure that is required. What are your thoughts on the future of EV in Nepal? How long do you think will people here take to shift to driving EV? Will the government encourage the used of EV and facilitate charging stations?
