Sundar Yatayat Pvt Ltd, a private transport organization, is scheduled to run 17 more electric vehicles (EVs) buses in Kathmandu, with the goal of reducing the usage of fuel-based vehicles and improving the Nepalese automobile industry's sustainability. Sundar Yatayat who has been operating three city buses that run along the Ring Road and one that runs between Bhaktapur to Ratna Park for the past 2 years, now intend to extend the service by running buses on all of the valley's routes.

The upcoming 17 buses purchased from China’s BAK Company, is currently undergoing procedures for entering Kathmandu at Sunaili Duty Custom. The procedures include processing customs fees, test reports, letters from the Department of Transport Management, which is set to be resolved in a week’s time. Out of all 17 buses which are en-route with Kathmandu, 4 of them will be operating in the Butwal-Bhairawa route. These buses capacitate 40-seats and cover 265 km of running distance in a single charge.

Sundar Yatyat buses intends to offer electronic payment via QR code scanning and card payments along with cash for the convenience of passengers. These electric buses allegedly provide the comfort of air conditioning while also contributing to sustainability with no smoke and minimal noise. With the encouragement from the government towards public electric buses, Sundar Yatayat has invested NRs. 50 crores into purchasing the buses, which is under plans to soon take over the routes in the major cities such as Butwal, Biratnagar, Narayangadh, and Nepalgunj among others as stated by Sundar’s chairperson Bhesh Bahadur Thapa. The company has also laid out a long-term ambitious plan to assemble electric vehicles and export to Bangladesh. To build the assembly facility, the company leased 8 bighas and 10 kathas of land at the Sainamaina Municipality in Butwal. The facility’s initial investment is expected to be around NRs 5.77 Arba. Sundar Yatayat has also issued a solicitation for the facility's construction.
